Dr Phuong Prowse is an experienced clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience specialising in Psychological Medicine obtained at Monash University (Melbourne). She is currently working in Private Practice, Clinical Psychologist Consultant to Correction and Senior Adjunct Research Fellow at Monash University with The Department of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science.
She has worked in a variety of clinical settings including acute psychiatric units, CATT, residential psychosocial rehabilitation centres, Mining Industries, Primary Care, Corrections, Disability, Education and Teritary Universities.
Dr Prowse works with clients who have concerns about their emotional and mental wellbeing as well as those who feel that they do not have any pressing issues but are interested in pursuing self-development. Her therapeutic style is collaborative, non judgement, insightful and sufficiently proactive to support clients achieve meaningful change in their life.
Dr Prowse offers a range of services including: intensive therapy, psychological and cognitive assessments, court reports, NDIS, WorkCover, MVA, and Critical Incident Counselling. She works with children, families, and adults but does not offer couple counselling.
Dr Prowse's treatment approach can include (but not limited): Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensatisation Reporcessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy (eg MBCT, MBSR, ACT, DBT), Compassion Focus Therapy (CFT), Grief and Loss Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Transformational Imaginary, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Motivational Therapy (MT), Cultural Competency Approach, and Critical Incident Stress Response counselling.
Dr Prowse is an accomplished clinical researcher with a keen interest in Trauma (PTSD, C-PTSD), Depression, child/adult ASD and Eating Disorders using mindfulness-based therapies and implementation of treatment fidelity of therapies in clinical practice and research. She has designed and developed the Mindfulness Based Self-Assessment Fidelity Scale Tool and the Fidelity Scale for Motivational Care Planning (implemented in the AIMhi Staying Strong App, an e-mental health). Both of tools have been published in international peer reviewed journals and used by clinicians and researchers nationally and internationally.
Dr Prowse is an international author who has written in International Peer-Review Journals and is a contributing author in the published book Handbook of Assessment in Mindfulness Research. Dr Prowse has achieved a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) specialising in Psychological Medicine from Monash University (Melbourne). She has presented at national and international conferences and continues to be active in the research field.
Dr Prowse is an experienced and accredited supervisor under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
